Shining a Light on the SC Swamp (6/7/2024)

I really wish people would take more notice of the corruption going on around them. South Carolina is no exception. It is a swampy cesspool which needs to be drained.

For example, did you know that South Carolina is one of only two states in the country (along with Virginia) where legislators elect judges? And are you aware of how many lawyers are on our legislature? Quite a few. Around here (Horry County), state Senator Luke Rankin and Representative Jeff Johnson are lawyers. How do we end this corruption? We vote these people out, and put people in who will pass a bill to end this practice. They would prefer you look the other way. “Nothing to see here.” Well there’s plenty to see here.

Another practice that needs to end is open primaries. In an open primary, regardless of which party you are part of, you can vote in either party’s primary. Democrats should not pick republican candidates (or vice versa). But they do. It’s how fake republicans that put the “R” after their names for expedience get elected.

A perfect example of this is none other than Carla Schuessler, my representative with a 17% conservative rating. She was a democrat until two years ago when she filed to run the first time. So she switched her party and democrats still vote for her because she’s the closest thing to a democrat in the race. And she gets republican votes because she’s the money candidate, controlled by the chamber of commerce. All the money she gets (and she’s outspent her opponents at least 5 to 1) allows her to pull the wool over the eyes of her constituents. This happens all over the state.

The establishment is desperate to take out the Freedom Caucus. Why? The Freedom Caucus represents transparency. They take pictures of the voting board and let the public see how everyone votes, unlike the fake republicans who would rather conceal how they vote. Because the Freedom Caucus represents us, the establishment represents their own interests. Shills like Carla Schuessler are a huge reason why as red as the people are here, we turn out only 40% conservative legislation. Without open primaries, you’d see real conservatism here.

People, take notice of these things!
