Don’t Let the Establishment Fool You With Their Fake Closed Primary Bill

The South Carolina fake Republican party led by Drew McKissick is trying to pull the wool over your eyes once again.

Back in April and May, while he was cheating his way into another two years as party chair by shutting out conservative Pickens County from the state convention, Drew McKissick made a promise that most of us saw through. He made a claim that he would close the primaries here in South Carolina. Anyone with an ounce of intelligence knew this was an empty promise, because it would end most of the rinos in the state house, as they would no longer be able to court Democrat votes.

Open primaries, along with fraudulent voting machines and non-partisan elections, which allow candidates to conceal their beliefs, are the three biggest reasons why South Carolina is the bluest red state in the country. This state turns out a mere 40% conservative legislation. Most people either don’t know this or don’t care enough to take an interest. Open primaries not only allow fake Republicans to keep power, but allow Democrats to vote in Republican primaries, and vice versa, but there would be no reason for a Republican to cross party lines. Democrats, who often stand little to no chance in the general election, can cross over and vote for the swampiest most liberal Republican, so at least that person will be on the general ballot rather than a conservative. If the state were to close the primaries, the electorate would resemble the people to a much greater degree, and McKissick and his rino coalition cannot have that.

There are now two competing bills about to be heard: H.3643 and H.3310. The former is the establishment bill backed by Drew McKissick and other fake Republicans. It would somewhat close primaries, but would also expand insider control to protect incumbents. It requires primary voters to have voted in two of the previous three Republican primaries to be eligible to vote in the current primary. But one can be a Democrat and do that. It gives the state party the ability to block and allow candidates, enabling them to keep their power base. It’s nothing more than a power grab for insiders. This is McKissick supposedly “coming through” on his promise to close primaries. It does nothing of the sort.

H.3310, on the other hand, is the Freedom Caucus bill, and a straightforward bill to close the primaries. It does not centralize power to those hungry for it. It does not empower party leadership, protect incumbents, or allow Democrats to vote in Republican primaries. It offers a 30 day window (as opposed to the other bill, which allows 45) to switch parties. This is the bill that is for the people. It will help put an end to the good ‘ol boys club. Its counterpart is for the politicians. It will only further empower those who have no interest in our values and vote conservatively 30% of the time or less.

These bills will be argued tomorrow, January 21, in front of the House Constitutional Laws Subcommittee. Hopefully, only H.3310 will be brought forward. Guys like Rob Harris and the rest of the Freedom Caucus need to be commended for the work they are doing to truly represent us in the state house. The power hungry rinos need to be overthrown, and this bill is the pathway to get the ball rolling.
