Horry Runoff Elections (6/25/2022)

I had a chance to meet Johnny Gardner the other day, who is currently in a runoff for Horry County Council Chair. First of all, if you're still on the fence as far as which candidate to vote for, you may need to look no further than what groups are supporting them. Johnny Gardner has the full support of our local police and fire fighters. Last time around, Mark Lazarus referred to them as thugs, and morale among them was at a low. Now, since Gardner has been chair, it is much higher. And who supports Mark Lazarus? Special interests. Builders. Developers. All kinds of people who stand to line their pockets deeply if Lazarus gets back in. That's why they're pouring insane amounts of money into this race. Essentially trying to buy votes to line their pockets further.

These cabal people with special interests won many elections on the 14th, and the grass roots candidates did not fare so well. It was quite sad, actually. And now, they're even threatening to come after a grass roots representative who is up for re-election in 2024. This is apparently South Carolina politics. This is what I'm saying when I express that we're not a big red beacon that many believe we are. It isn't enough that you have an "R" after your name, especially in an open primary state, where organized efforts are being carried out to influence our candidate. (Even New York has this one right.)

Anyway, I spoke with Mr. Gardner for a bit, and asked him point blank whether he thinks there is corruption in our elections here in SC. It seemed for too coincidental (and I don't believe in coincidences) that so many candidates that either didn't campaign or barely lifted a finger won races, while people who were out there meeting people and knocking on doors (the grass roots candidates) lost. I honestly don't see how this is possible. I expressed to Mr. Gardner that I'm concerned they're going to try to rig this thing for his opponent. I hope I am wrong about this.

I also had an opportunity to meet and talk to this man, David Cox, who is currently in a runoff for School Board Chairman of Horry County. He already had my vote, but it was great to chat with him as well. I'll say this: he is a good man, has the right experience, cares deeply about children, and will do a spectacular job.

Please get out there and vote on June 28 for Johnny Gardner and David Cox!
