Many in South Carolina were quick to blame northern transplants for their election results the other day. They have been saying for years that this was the case, and it is provably false. How are states people are moving from getting bluer and states they are moving to getting bluer? They aren’t. It was a bad election here for the same reasons it was a bad election everywhere else. In fact, South Carolina did relatively well compared to other places. Texas, for instance, did a lot worse.
Obviously the big one that has everyone buzzing here was Darline Graham losing her election bid to Annie Andrews. It was a fluke election, and Andrews will probably have only one term, but South Carolina will have a Democrat in the Senate for the first time in 28 years. Graham was a terrible candidate. She didn’t know information during debates. She isn’t all that smart, and the last name Graham was not a qualifier. Nepotism is not a reason to vote for someone. President Trump should not have forced her on us.
Republicans in South Carolina won the statewide races for Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, State Treasurer, State Superintendent of Education, and Commissioner of Agriculture. Despite what the establishment is saying, it is not getting bluer here. Their good ‘ol boy apple cart is being threatened by actual conservatives. Those moving here from places like New York (like myself), New Jersey, and Massachusetts are in large part conservative. I’ve written about this before in past blogs, and it still holds true.
If the establishment didn’t use manipulation and corrupt money during the primary, and Ralph Norman was the candidate, he would have won. He was competent, conservative, and experienced. Darline was none of those things. Her race went the opposite way of most of the rest of the state, as voters clearly split their tickets when it came to Darline.
So, when they tell you people moving down here from the northeast are turning this state bluer, ask them how it’s possible that it’s getting bluer up there and bluer here as well. Or show them this article. It isn’t possible. They are lying to you.
