Trump’s Bad Endorsements (5/20/2024)

Let me start this post out by saying I love President Trump, love how he puts himself on the line for this country, and that it kills me to see everything he’s going through with the political law fare, sham trials, and weaponization of the government the left is using to take him down, because he is a major threat to their power. I see what’s going on every day and ask myself and ask myself, “How is it that the left seems to come away unscathed as they constantly abuse power?” They know what they are doing is wrong, unethical, and has no basis in fact or law.

That said, there are some times President Trump gets it massively wrong, and one of those times occurred this morning. He put out a list on Truth Social of members of the South Carolina State House he is endorsing. Nearly all of them are Republicans in name only with terrible conservative voting records. (See the full list in the comments with their conservative ratings.) He did the same thing two years ago – got behind several people who would stab him in the back in a heartbeat, and now he’s doing it again. Why, you might ask? Let’s put that in perspective. South Carolina has 124 House seats, and that’s just one state. Multiply that by 50 – no, each state doesn’t have the same number, but regardless, that means there are several thousand state representatives countrywide. Do you think President Trump himself vets them all? No! He doesn’t have that kind of time. So what happens is someone like Murrell Smith, the speaker of the house (33% conservative rating) gets into Trump’s ear, and gives him a list of people to endorse, and Trump does it. He does not see their voting records. For example, he does not see that all of them (with the exception of the freedom caucus members) voted with the democrats to put in a statewide health czar. An Anthony Fauci type dictator who would have unilateral decisions over your health. Fortunately that bill was killed last session, but they will try to bring it back. That is just one of many examples.

Fortunately, there is a group of roughly 20 in the state house that believe in the Constitution. They can be seen here: https://scfreedomcaucus.com/. They are our voice. Their movement is growing, but make no mistake, the false republicans in the uniparty would rather work with democrats than the freedom caucus, and there’s an active movement by the establishment to take them down. At the beginning of this legislative term, a document known as the loyalty oath went around, and if a member did not sign it, they were not allowed to be part of the republican caucus. This loyalty pledge said that no matter what, members could not support anyone but incumbents. It also said they could not post pictures of the legislative board showing how the body voted on bills. The freedom caucus members would not sign it. How can anyone representing us agree to something like that? It’s the equivalent of selling one’s soul to be on the inside. You cannot sign that and truly represent We the People. Yet most of the R’s did. They are puppets. I wouldn’t sign such a piece of paper if there was a gun pointed at my head. Republican vs. Democrat is no longer an accurate characterization, it is now We the People vs. Uniparty. And it is not exclusive to our state, either.

Look at the list. Look at the voting records. These people (with the exception of the freedom caucus) all signed the pledge and have terrible voting records. Trump would not approve if he knew all the facts. But these people need to keep their good old boy network together. They crave power and freeze out all who get in the way. It totally explains why a state in which the people are 70% conservative turns out only 40% conservative legislation. It also deserves notice that all endorsements are incumbents. How could Trump coincidentally endorse only incumbents if he vetted people? Obviously he didn’t. And that leads me to another point. I’ve only lived down here about three years here now, most people I know have been here much longer. But a majority of those living down here do not vet their candidates. They blindly vote for someone on name recognition, incumbency/desire to be on the side of the favorite, advertising (Chamber money goes only to the people they can control), or just plain ignorance.

Now, let’s get even more local. I live in District 61. The incumbent’s name is Carla Schussler. Nobody knew who she was 2 years ago because it was a new district, but now she has a record, and it is abysmal. 17% conservative! (Tied for the worst on the list!) Her opponent, Shannon Grady, is far more conservative and has pledged to join the freedom caucus. She would not sell her soul to sign a loyalty pledge as Schussler has. She’s also a veteran and was never a democrat. Schussler is a chamber controlled rino, and like so many others, is on this list so the rinos can keep power. Delving more into Schussler’s past, she voted for Obama. She voted for Hillary Clinton. SHE WORKED ON HILLARY CLINTON’S CAMPAIGN. In 2010 she joined a democrat women’s group. She put the “R” after her name just a few years ago for convenience, because she, like so many others, did not believe she’d win as a democrat. But her mailings will not tell you all of that. Again, 70% conservative state, 40% conservative legislation.

I’ve also recently had the pleasure of getting to know John Beatty, running in nearby district 58 against Jeff Johnson, another fake republican (30% conservative). John is a good man, and a breath of fresh air. He too has pledged to join the Freedom Caucus. The man is truly America First, and every time he speaks, he makes great sense. John would represent us much better than Jeff Johnson.

Just to make a comparison to some of these terrible voting records, Rob Harris and Jordan Pace are two members of the Freedom Caucus. Both of their ratings are 100%. Do I expect that from every member? No, but the average on that list of the non-freedom caucus members is 32 1/2%, and we deserve better than that! We deserve people who do not have to hide their past! We deserve to know how they vote! And most importantly, we need people that represent us and not their own interests!
